New ZBI 2.0 – the Zebra Programming language gets more power

Zebra is proud to introduce ZBI 2.0™ (Zebra BASIC Interpreter) programming language, a powerful and flexible customisation tool for easy integration of Zebra printers into a wide variety of applications. ZBI is a key component of Zebra’s programming languages Ace and helps users save time and money on implementation whilst also improving Zebra partners’ revenue stream.

ZBI 2.0 enables you to develop applications that e.g.

• Directly connect the printer to a bar code scanner, scale or keyboard.
> Create a stand-alone printing station without the added expense of a PC.
> Create front-panel prompts, such as “Scan Now,” so the printer can work interactively with and guide the operator. New!
> Use data on the printer to perform a look-up on a PC-based database. New!
• Convert data streams into printable labels. This makes it possible to replace competitive printers with superior Zebra ones- all without the expense of reprogramming legacy label formats.

Availability

ZBI 2.0 is an option on the Zebra S4M™, ZM400™/ZM600™, 105SL™, and XiIIIPlus™ printers and PAX4™ print engines. ZBI 2.0 is embedded in the v53.16.2Z and v60.16.2Z and later firmware versions and can be activated with a ZBI key. Customers can order printers from the factory with ZBI 2.0 enabled, or enable printers in the field by purchasing “activation keys”.

Every partner can take advantage of ZBI 2.0 – Zebra offers two alternatives to cover different needs:

1. To create your own ZBI 2.0 programs, we now offer a free ZBIDeveloper™ programming utility, as well chargeable training courses. Together, the ZBI 2.0 programming language and ZBI-Developer deliver enhanced features, greater ease of use and new opportunities for high-value solutions.

2. Zebra’s Custom Application Group (CAG) help out with developmet. Please contact customer service and describe your project.

• Now, users can develop a programme to drive the applicator port on the PAX4 print engine, making it possible to create new, printer-based logic systems.
• The ZBI 2.0 documentation now includes extensive examples to help programmers quickly apply ZBI 2.0’s features.
• A new, advanced encryption method allows our resellers to protect their services by ensuring the ZBI 2.0 programs they develop can’t be copied or viewed by their customers.
