PowerScan PM8300-DK Demo Software Availability

The new PowerScan PM8300-DK reader is a laser scanner directed to customers requiring extreme mobility and versatility in manufacturing and warehouse environments.

The full keypad, combined with the 4 lines x 16 character display, significantly increases the possibility of interacting with the host, enlarging the potential of the scanner and making it suitable for applications that would normally require a more expensive portable data terminal.

Several operational modes are configurable:

• Basic Data Entry: Bar codes are read or data is entered manually through the keyboard and simply transmitted to the host when the enter key is pressed. 

• "Out-of-the-box" Bar Code - Quantity Application: The operator is prompted on the display when reading a bar code or entering the quantity. Two fields of information are joined sequentially following the configured format. The Code-Quantity pair can be transmitted separately or together in any order and with programmable separators, headers and terminators. Optionally, the same code can be transmitted repeatedly. 

• Operator Activity Driven by the Host: Utilizing the bidirectional capability of the Datalogic STAR Cordless System™ radio, the host can drive the operator activity transmitting instructions that are shown on the display.

The third operational mode (Operator Activity Driven by the Host) requires the development of a custom software application running on the host, not on the scanner. The scanner acts as a ‘terminal’ for the host.

To simplify the different operational modes, we have created Demo Software that can be used to demonstrate a few typical applications. The Software is available both in the executable version; and in the "source code". The source code is addressed to our partners and customers and can be used as examples for their customized applications.

The complete package is organized as a tutorial to drive people who are not familiar with the Datalogic STAR radio features. The basic concepts that need to be understood are the 2-Way Communication feature. It is modular; therefore skilled people can skip the tutorial and go directly to the demo application.

We suggest that all our sales people become familiar with the Demo Software, install it on their computer and use it for demonstrations at customer sites. In the event of further training, dedicated training sessions can be organized.

Includes a tutorial to educate to the basic concepts of the Datalogic STAR radio protocol, an executable program that demonstrate some typical applications combined with the different operative mode offered by the PowerScan PM8300-DK and some configuration examples both in executable and source code. This package is mainly addressed to software developers for creating advanced applications based on the use of the PowerScan PM8300-DK but it can be profitably used by all persons that want an in-depth understanding of the different operative modes of the PowerScan PM8300-DK and the Datalogic STAR radio protocol. 

PowerScan PM8300-DK Application Demonstration Software, Lite Package

Executable program that demonstrates some typical applications combined with the different operative mode offered by the PowerScan PM8300-DK. Among the others, a menu is presented on the scanner display to choose Picking, Inventory, Price Check or Message applications. The operator is driven through the chosen application on a step-by-step operation. This program is addressed to sales and technical support to demonstrate the potential of the PowerScan PM8300-DK, in particular in the 2-WAY communication mode.
