730 and 761 Series Second Retirement Notice (EOL)

This is the second notice of the end-of-build schedule for the 730 and 761 Series of handheld computers. The 700 Series has provided rugged mobile computers for users in many environments and markets for over eight years. However, with the extremely successful release of the new Intermec CN3 mobile computer series, Intermec is providing advanced notice on the retirement of the some of the 700 Series line of mobile computers.

Intermec policy is to provide its customers as much notice as possible on retirement events. One of the main benefits of this 12 month notice is the ability for customers to purchase the 730s and 761s they require in plenty of time AND allow time for migration to the newer CN3 Series.

The product retirement schedule is as follows:

Other 700 Series family members (741/751) will remain in production beyond June 2009 until the end of 2009

Recommended Migration Path:

Customers should migrate from these retiring models to the CN3 series of mobile computers. Like the 730 and 761, the Intermec CN3 / CN3e target mobile applications and are optimized for use in the Field Service, DSD and In-Transit Visibility applications. While there is excellent overlap between the two product lines when it comes to choices of radios, key pad layouts, durability specifications, screen size and deployment, there is a technology update path of operating systems (WM 2003/5 to WM 5/6.1 and future developments) and scan engine choices (from Linear or Laser to Area Imager or Camera) using GPS as an additional option for in-field solutions.
