New Dragon M Accessories STAR Cordless System available

Overview
Datalogic Scanning’s Dragon™ industrial handheld scanner family is designed for customers requiring reliability without compromise in industrial applications like shop-floor/work-in-progress and warehouse management. The Dragon M cordless solution is unique in the market in terms of flexibility, performance and reliability.

Some of the Dragon M accessories that were useful for a more flexible and professional network installation became unavailable for orders through Datalogic Scanning after the corporate restructuring at the beginning of April, 2007. These accessories are now available from Datalogic Scanning.

Accessories Description

STARGATE™

STARGATE™ is a radio base station that enables a wireless network allowing data transmission between  several Datalogic RF devices and a host system (standard Windows based PC).

A single STARGATE™ RF base station covers a line of site area of about 8,000 m²/9,500 square yards in 433 MHz models or 3,000 m²/3,500 square yards in 910 MHz models. This base station manages up to 2,000 different mobile devices and supports up to 255 simultaneous active clients in real time.

The seamless active roaming capability of the STARGATE™ RF base station network to extends the covered area and overcomes physical limitations due to concrete walls, firewalls or metal shelving. This unique feature allows the operators to move in total freedom from office to office throughout different departments/buildings while always being connected to the host application.

STARGATE™ can be used as a single unit, in a network of multiple STARGATE™ devices or in a mixed network including STARGATE™ as well as the Dragon cradles (OM-3000).

STAR-Box™

The STAR-Box™ is an accessory used as a connection box between STARGATE™ devices and the host PC. It provides the following advantages:

• Facilitates system wiring connections by using spring clamp connectors instead of crimp cable  connectors.
• Assures RS-485 bus integrity in the event of a problem with a device on the line.
• Provides surge protection.
• Performs RS-485 to RS-232 conversion for connecting the RS-485 network to an RS-232 port on a host PC (active model only).
• Operates as an RS-485 line repeater for increasing signal power in long or complex network applications (active model only).

The STARGATE™ base station can be connected to the STAR-Box™ using a standard RS-485 bus cable.
The STAR-Box™ is available in two models:

• STAR-Box™ + RS-232/RS-485 Converter: active; it can be used for RS-232 to RS-485 level conversion or for RS-485 signal repeating with long distance connections.
• STAR-Box™: passive; facilitates system wiring connections by using spring clamp connectors.

Connection Cables and Power Supplies
Several Cables are available for connecting a PC to STAR-Box™, STAR-Box™ to STAR-Box™ and STARBox™ to STARGATE™.

A new power supply, the FPS18 (14VDC, 70 W), is available to be used in conjunction with the MBC-3000 multi-battery charger in place of the PG12-10P55.

Connection Options
A network example is shown in the picture below to help provide a better understanding of the different parts. Each paired STAR-Box™ and STARGATE™ can be replaced by an OM-3000. Further details can be found in the STAR-Box™ and STARGATE™ manuals.

Delivery
All of the new part numbers are available for ordering now (2007-08-16) and are normally manufactured upon order. Lead time for shipping from the factory is typically within 3 weeks from order.

Datalogic Scanning backs the STARGATE™ with a standard two year parts and labor warranty.
