Datalogic - Two New Models in the 8000 Family and DS6500 to become obsolete

We are pleased to inform you that the 8000 family has been upgraded with the new DS8100A-2X10 models of high performance industrial scanners. These new models are specifically designed for medium resolution sorting applications and can better compete in the entry level market segment. At the same time, we announce that all models of DS6500 will be discontinued starting January 1, 2007.

With the introduction of the new DS8100A-2010/2110 models, the 8000 family from Datalogic can cover all possible applications in the transportation and logistics industry. These models can read bar codes under plastic and have no limitation in terms of minimum skew angle.

Other main features include Datalogic patented Astra™ and PackTrack™ technology, reading range up to 1.5m on 0.38mm bar codes, scan rate of 1000 scans/sec, DIGITECH™ digitizer board, Datalogic ACR4 software algorithm, built-in connectivity, full compatibility with the DS8100A, SC6000 and 6000 family, and a software platform based on GENIUS program.

All these features help the DS8100 product line provide high performance solutions for the transportation and logistics market sector.

General scenario and Datalogic Strategy on 8K Product Family

DS8100 Product Line represents for sure one of the most innovative and successful product developed by Datalogic.
8K Family has really set a new Standard in Auto-ID technology inside Transport&Logistic market, thanks to its unique features and technology (ASTRA, PACKTRACK, ACR4, … ).

Generally speaking we can say that DS8100A has built an excellent reputation in the market and it is synonymous with high performance solutions for T&L Market Sector (Baggage Handling, Parcel Sorting,… ).

Based on the above mentioned scenario, the future strategy of USS division is to increase our investment in 8K Family (DS8100A, DX8200A, SC6000) in order to consolidate and extend our leadership in the high end market segment. In the future the main drivers of our investments will be: better performance, new functions, ease-to-use, ease-to-install, ease-to-maintain.
The standardization of our T&L Business Solution on 8K platform will allow more efficient production and lower costs.
The New Model DS8100A-2X10 is the result of this Datalogic USS Strategy. The aim of DS8100A-2X10 is to be specialized in the medium resolution applications and to better compete in the entry level market segment that is typically price sensitive.

The new DS8100A-2X10 combines the following benefits:
• aggressive list price positioning with excellent performance/price ratio
• same HW Platform of 8K Family
• better performance if compared to DS6500.

The introduction of the new DS8100A-2010/2110 makes the 8K family able to cover all the possible applications in the T&L; moreover, the new DS8100A has a much better price/performance ratio than the DS6500, as a result of better performing optics, of the use of Polaroid filter for reading under plastic and of an overall better performance. Considering the complete overlap between DS8100A-2X10 and the DS6500, the second one will be discontinued consequently.

Main features are summarized as follows:

• ASTRA™ Datalogic Patented Technology:
the optic platform of the new DS8100A-2X10 is still based on improved ASTRA™ technology but electronic focusing system drives only 2 laser diodes.

• PackTrack™ Datalogic Patented Technology:
the feature allows the reader to calculate and measure in real time the position of the code to be read in order to assign the correct barcode to the correct parcel reducing the minimum gap between boxes.

• Excellent reading range: up to 1,5m on 0,38mm barcodes

• Excellent Scan rate: 1000 scan/s

• DIGITECHTM digitizer board:
optimized and independent signal processing for each laser source.

• Datalogic ACR4 SW algorithm

Built-in connectivity: dedicated versions with built-in Ethernet (TCP/IP, ETH-IP, MODBUSTCP).

• Compatibility: fully compatibility between DS8100A, SC6000 and 6000 family.

• SW platform: based on GENIUS program

DS8100A-2X10 is typically addressed to applications having the following characteristics:
• parcel sorting application with medium code resolutions: from 0,375 mm to 0,5mm narrow bar;
• sorting application on medium-small conveyor: conveyor width from 500 to 800 mm;
• sorting applications related to small item and/or flats;
• general applications in Manufacturing and Warehousing in which it is required the features and the DOF of 2 diode multi-laser architecture;
• T&L applications in which price is a key success factor.
